DTF printing depth explanation
DTF printing uses an inkjet printer to print water-based pigment inks onto PET (polyethylene terephthalate) film. PET film is used because of its dimensional stability and non-toxic properties when heated. The image is printed mirror-image so that the image is "face down" onto the PET film.
The last color to be printed is usually white, which dries slowly, so it's sticky for powdered adhesives (hot-melt powders made from polyurethane resin). Once the powder is applied by a process of laminating the powder over the sticky print and shaking/stirring the film to remove any unbonded powder, the film is then passed through a hot tunnel that melts the adhesive to bond it to the ink. Exiting the tunnel, the print and adhesive are cooled and ready for application.
The application process is very simple, cut the DTF transfer from the roll, press at 325' F for 10-15 seconds, then cool. Once the print is completely cool, peel off the PET film and your garment is ready. In some cases, after removing the PET film, return the shirt to the heat press and place a piece of parchment or another cured paper over the image and press for another 10 seconds to ensure transfer to the garment. 24 hours before washing clothes.
